About the data: This is a training capstone built from a case-study brief and a dataset supplied by the programme. It does not describe a real client.
Project overview
A Power BI capstone project for the Techlytics Institute of Technology and Innovation (NECA-ITF Technical Skills Development Programme, AI-Augmented Data Analytics). The case study is NaijaStock Distributors Ltd, a Nigerian distributor of packaged foods, beverages and household products that sells through warehouses in Lagos, Ibadan, Kano, Port Harcourt and Abuja.
Business problem
The company's Product, Operations and Procurement teams each looked at performance through their own spreadsheets and rarely agreed on one version of the numbers. Simple executive questions, such as which products drive the business or which warehouse is falling behind, could not be answered in the same meeting because the figures first had to be pulled together and reconciled by hand.
Objectives
- Build one consolidated Power BI report from the sales transaction records.
- Give the executive team an overview page for any period, region, category or warehouse they choose.
- Give product and category managers a page showing how individual products and categories behave over time.
- Give operations managers a page comparing warehouses against each other and against their own past performance.
- Give the procurement team a page on supplier revenue, profit, cost per unit and delivery lead time.
Dataset
The data came as a multi-sheet Excel workbook with one central sales table (one row per sales line) and dimension tables for products, warehouses, suppliers and customers. It had no calendar table, and some columns needed cleaning before analysis.
Dashboard and visualisation
The finished report is interactive and has five pages. Each page has slicers, for example by year, month, supplier, supplier type and country, and page buttons across the top. It reports revenue, quantity and profit in naira, with month-on-month and year-on-year comparisons.
